Inexpensive Ways to Entertain Outside

For some, the idea of eating out of doors conjures up pictures of mosquito bites and flies in the potato salad. But just as many of us relish the thought of cold lemonade and a hamburger under a shady elm in our own modest patch of nature. You don’t need a lot of specially made picnic ware to do that but you can enhance the experience with a few inexpensive items from the dollar store.

Pick up a few pieces of melamine. You can get dinner plates in plain white or with a pattern, as you prefer. It will only cost you a dollar per plate and will save you from worrying about breakage of your everyday dinnerware.

These luncheon plates came in a package of four for a dollar and are made of a sturdy plastic. The woven place mats, plastic goblets, melamine bowl and juice jug were a dollar each and you can buy good quality paper napkins in a package of twenty for a dollar.

If you are entertaining friends, you might want to add a centerpiece to your table setting. For a lunchtime gathering, flowers are always a nice touch and, if you have a cutting garden, creating a casual bouquet will be easy. For the rest of us, an inexpensive grocery store bouquet set in an empty jam jar will do the job nicely. For nighttime entertaining, go for glow with a trio of pillar candles.

These candles were a dollar each and the square plate was $2.00. If you care to, add a few shells or colored glass pebbles to your candle plate. Either one is a dollar per bag.

For about ten dollars, you can entertain friends outdoors in Dollar Store Style.
